IN DEPTH COVERAGE
A carefully digested and indexed classification of awards based on the extent of injuries, taken from actual reported and unreported verdicts and findings during the past decade in the Pennsylvania State and Federal Courts located in the Commonwealth, fully reflecting the inflationary trend which has occurred.
The current edition was converted to soft-cover format to cover cases from 1990 onward and will be kept up to date with yearly revisions. For each case in the book, the authors have included: the verdict or settlement; where the case arose or was initially tried; a summary of the facts; counsel, judge and docket number; and the year of final decision.
Summary of Facts: Minor plaintiff, a 12 year-old girl, was rescued by a neighbor after she was attacked by two dogs. Another neighbor, who was a police officer, shot one of the dogs. Defendant owner arrived and grabbed his other dog by the collar while it allegedly attempted to attack police officers when they arrived at the scene. The second dog was then shot and destroyed. Minor plaintiff sustained lacerations and contusions to her face and legs and partial avulsion of the left ear. Additional injuries included abrasions and contusions to the child's right gum, puncture wounds and lacerations to the left cheek resulting in permanent scarring of the face and legs and a permanently deformed left ear. Plaintiff father brought suit against the defendant owners of the dogs. The case settled prior to trial for the defendant's $300,000 homeowner's policy limit.
